During the first annual State of the Union address, President Joe Biden did not mention the Build Back Better campaign proposal, one of his most important campaign proposals.
Jen Psaki, White House press secretary, confirmed that President Joe Biden would use “absolutely the word inflation” in his speech. However, Biden completely omitted the Build back Better Act and made no mention of the failed bill, which died in Congress.
Some Democrats claimed that the Build Back Better program is still alive and well. However, Biden’s inability to name it during his first State of the Union address was a pivotal turning point. Many Republican leaders had already dismissed the bill as “dead” following its failure to pass the U.S. Senate.
The death of the bill, which is nearly $2 trillion in value, was largely attributable to Joe Manchin (Democrat from West Virginia). He pulled out of negotiations with Biden’s White House because he was concerned that the bill would increase the inflation rate. Manchin is also credited with reducing the initial price of the Build Back Better Bill from $3.5 to $1.75 trillion.
Biden instead of asking Congress to pass his multitrillion-dollar social spending plan, he emphasized specific sections of the package. Biden repeated the phrase “my plan” and called it his strategy to combat inflation “building America better,” but did not mention his failed bill.
A Biden administration official stated that it was not about the bill’s name. It’s all about the ideas. It’s all about lowering the costs for families.
When asked about the White House’s attempts to revive parts of the Build Back better bill, Manchin laughed and said that the Biden administration couldn’t help but laugh. “I don’t know where this came from. Manchin stated that nothing has changed. “That was a little too far.”
Biden failed to mention the Chinese Communist Party threat to our national security. He also did not mention his promise of student loan relief, January 6 Capitol Riots and mask mandates affecting school children.
