Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, appeared to be negative on Twitter after the Biden administration established a “Disinformation Governance Board” in order to combat online disinformation. This was just days after Musk’s purchase of Twitter.
“Discomforting”, the South African billionaire wrote on Twitter in retaliation to Steven Crowder’s tweet comparing the newly-established board to Nazi Germany.
Wednesday’s testimony by Alejandro Mayorkas, Homeland Security Secretary, revealed that a “Disinformation Governance Board”, created just days after Musk bought Twitter, was being used to combat online disinformation.
Mayorkas stated that “the goal is to bring together the resources of (DHS), to address this threat.” He also said that the department is focusing on disinformation spreading in minority communities.
This move was immediately criticized by Republicans, including Missouri Senator Josh Hawley, who called the board “disgraceful” and accused Nina Jankowicz (board’s executive director), of being a “leftist radical”.
Jankowicz was criticized for appearing to dismiss Hunter Biden’s legitimacy. The laptop has been independently verified and referred to as a “Trump campaign item” once it was.
