ABC News reported that 12 cities had broken homicide records in 2021. Philadelphia was among the 12 because it broke its old homicide record, which was 500 per year.

ABC News reported that Philadelphia, a city with 1.5 million residents, had experienced more homicides than New York (443 as Dec. 5) or Los Angeles (352 (as of Nov. 27).

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in 2020 that almost 499 people were killed in Philadelphia, an increase of 40% over the 2019 figures.
